Smith's Coaches of Reading were an integral part of the local scene for six decades, also seen all over England on excursions, extended tours and their seasonal coastal express services. This is the story of how the enterprise developed from a single charabanc to become a fleet of over 100, the largest privately-owned coaching firm in Southern England. The blue-and-orange fleet of well-kept coaches were also duly supplemented by double-deckers used mainly for contracts, but also seen on football shuttles and schools work, which added considerable interest, as did those vehicles created through extensive re-builds. It is also the story of those who helped with the development of Smith's Coaches, told in their own words, plus a full fleet list. Also included are all other coach operators in Reading up to 1939. This book represents another major history for a well-known former operator. Within its 288 A4 perfect bound pages are 500 monochrome photos and 100 in full colour.
