The history of the World's Land Speed Record is a big subject for a small book, so it is divided between two books, this one describing the 2nd half century. In this little book we have the full story told by LSR expert Fred Käsmann, of what happened after John Cobb took the record in 1947, with his 1939 car. Little more happened until the 1960s, which saw the emergence of jet and rocket power, and a whole new generation of record contenders. The story culminates in the breaking of the sound barrier (1st March) by Thrust SSC in 1977. Here we have all that any general reader needs to know about the post-war history of the World's Land Speed Record, and even experts will find it useful to have all the dates and details in one handy publication.
