This new book, by Arthur Ord-Hume, is the first overview of the history and development of aviation in Scotland. Ord-hume maps the history spanning from ballooning to the early days of the Lanark 1910 meeting and the 1911 Daily Mail Air Race through the First World War to the activities of the Royal Flying Corps and then on to the development of civil aviation and the opening of airports, island services and then brings the story right up to the present day. Readers unfamiliar with Ord-Hume's writing will discover that he is witty and at the same time produces an intelligent narrative. Arthur's idea of telling the story of Scottish aviation succinctly is this book, over 200 photos and thousands upon thousands of words spanning 400 years of the subject, but mainly the era of powered flight.
