Bishopsgate Goods Depot 1875-2002

Details

Bishopsgate Goods Depot is a remarkable survivor -the most complete goods station in London - and in the latest of its books, the London Railway Heritage Society examines the history of this unique site. It's a particularly timely release, as Bishopsgate is under threat from the planned East London Line Extension and much of what's left may soon be demolished. There's a good mixture of pictures and plans that really show what it was like in its heyday, and some of the amazing artefacts that remain today. It could benefit from being bigger than its A5 format to allow some of the pictures to be used larger and to avoid spreading the plans over two pages, and some may not find it as detailed as they would like. All in all, though, it's an -informative - and at times eye-opening - reminder of one of the railway's longest-neglected treasures.
