This is the first of three volumes about London trolleybus depots. Part one is an overall presentation of the work carried out to ensure that vehicles went out in tip-top mechanical and electrical condition. The work of the craftsmen is explained and various paperwork items detail rules and regulations that had to be complied with. Depot work was more than what just went on inside the building. The cleanliness of the vehicles was important and advertisements, 'road calls', vehicles on test, those using trade plates, destination blinds and the loaning of vehicles from one depot to another are dealt with. Advertisements, withdrawn vehicles, traversers, code plates also feature. What may be considered the high spot of this volume are the formal plans of each of the proposed South London depots - the exception is New Cross where either one was not made or has not come to light. There is a twelve page colour section. An opening-out map of the extensive overhead at Fulwell depot is included.
