This latest history from Trolleybooks centres on the West Midlands borough of Walsall, which introduced trolleybuses in 1931 and closed in 1970, leaving only two trolleybus systems remaining in the country. The introduction of trolleybuses was very much influenced by Walsall's near neighbour Wolverhampton and a joint route commenced between the two towns, in itself an unusual occurrence. It was unusual in that after the opening of two routes in the 1930s, no further extensions were introduced until the arrival of a new manager in 1952, when over the next decade the operation doubled in size. The new manager was Ronald Edgeley Cox who introduced, besides the new routes, new vehicles of ground-breaking innovation together with in later years trolleybuses from no less than four different other systems. Walsall's trolleybus system was the only one to be operated by a Passenger Transport Executive and the full story of its growth and demise is told in detail over the 232 pages which includes 14 appendices.
