Harton Electric Railway

The Harton Electric Railway (located in South Shields on Tyneside) must surely be one of Britain's most remarkable railways! Built to transport coal from pits to staiths on the River Tyne for shipment, using overhead electric traction, this highly successful system operated for more than 80 years.
