Continuing the story of the railways in Bury and Rossendale, East Lancashire Railway Back in time: 1987-1999 continues to tell the story of the railways in the local area, focusing on the efforts of the wonderful band of volunteers who have worked so hard over the past three decades to turn the Heywood to Rawtenstall line into one of the UK's leading heritage railways. The book is the first of a short series of books providing a comprehensive history of the preservationists. The first volume looks at the period of 1987, when the railway first opened to passenger services between Bury and Ramsbottom, and 1999, when the railway had grown into a much larger organisation running between Bury and Rawtenstall, and was working to return passenger services to Heywood. The book covers all of the main events in the history of the ELR in a bright and lively format, featuring 228 pages with over 500 images and a detailed text.
