A 1948 holiday at Lendalfoot sparked the interest of soon-to-be bus enthusiast, John Sinclair. To this seven year old the Ayrshire coast was bleak but the Guy Arabs passing every two hours were modern and colourful and the holiday much improved by sightseeing the Western SMT Girvan depot. Ten years later John began to visit Dumfries and Galloway for the weekend to observe and photograph the area's quirky collection of buses, some of which even at that time were quite elderly. The visits initially combined hitchhiking with youth hostelling, but when John acquired a car in 1966 he was able to roam the whole of Dumfries and Galloway in a day to look for interesting buses. This book contains a selection of John's photos, mainly from the 1960s, showing the variety of vehicles and operators still to be seen in Dumfries and Galloway at that time. Each image is accompanied by a detailed text outlining the history of the bus and operator featured.
