The City of Leeds is spread out across a substantial and hilly part of West Yorkshire (formerly the West Riding). This volume covers the fleet from the beginning of the Leeds Corporation Tramways era near the end of the 19th century, through to its absorption into the WYPTE, together with similar operations in neighbouring Bradford, Halifax and Huddersfield in April 1974. The substantial tramway network was the backbone of the operation until its demise in 1959. After a small trolleybus system was closed, a substantial motor bus fleet was built up, which accelerated after World War Two, as suburban housing developments gathered pace. Many of the trams were built in the Corporation’s own workshops and the majority of the bus fleet was also bodied locally by Charles H Roe Ltd of Crossgates. Includes details of all known tram cars, trolleybuses and motorbuses and their subsequent disposals.
