An Illustrated History of Passenger Bodies Built by Lee Motor Works (Bournemouth) Ltd

Lee Motors was a Bournemouth-based motor engineering and coach building enterprise. First registered in 1925, it became a diverse operation manufacturing bodies for a wide range of commercial vehicles. This included specialising in passenger coachbuilding, although only a handful of bodies were built pre-war. In the years after WW2 Lee undertook the building of new bodies on new chassis, and also reconditioned a number of older chassis, fitting them with new bodies. Additionally, they also carried out full-scale refurbishment of complete vehicles following the ravages of wartime service. The company was favoured by a number of coach companies, notably Mendip Queen, Skylark Motor Services, Bere Regis & District and the Basil Williams empire of companies. Two 20-seat Bedfords delivered to Dorset CC in 1952 appear to have been the final passenger bodies produced, although the company carried on with the production and repair of commercial vehicle bodywork until finally closing its doors in 1974.
