Didcot to Winchester

A latecomer to the railway map, the route was steeply graded and passed through beautiful but thinly populated scenery. Thus short trains were the norm, except in wartime when the line was of great strategic importance. Its evolution from a rural byway to a great military highway is fully illustrated.
