Glasgow & South Western Railway A History
ST648
The fourth volume of David Ross's series of histories of the five major pre-Grouping railway companies in Scotland is the first published history of the Glasgow & South Western Railway which from its founding until the 1923 Grouping ran most of the railways in south west Scotland. The G&SWR was completely dominant in Dumfries & Galloway, as well as having most of the lines in Ayrshire and Renfrewshire too. The company served Glasgow using St. Enoch Station, now the site of a modern shopping complex. This book has been researched using original sources and is fully referenced, making it an ideal resource for anybody wishing to study the development of railways in south west Scotland. Twelve maps showing various parts of the system in detail are also included.
