The tramway was authorised by the Kidderminster & Stourport Electric Tramway Act of 1896. The company was established as a subsidiary of the British Electric Traction group. A Kidderminster company, George Law, was responsible for the construction at a cost of around 23,000 (equivalent to approximately £2,300,000 today. The depot and generating station were constructed off New Road in Kidderminster. In order for the tramway to function they had a single track laid along two routes and four bridges had to be widened also. This tramway system was most notable at the start for having vestibule cars with windscreens to protect the driver. This was because most other tram systems did not have the luxury of this and their drivers were exposed to the elements. The system itself closed on 2nd April 1929. In this A4, softback book David Voice looks at the Kidderminster & Stourport Electric Tramway Company throughout its lifespan.
