North Yorks Moors Railway Past & Present

There has been a railway through the heart of the North York Moors for almost 180 years, but the fact that it is still possible to go by train from Whitby to Pickering is due entirely to the tenacious efforts of the early preservationists, who refused to let the railway die when it was closed by British Railways 50 years ago in 1965. This book stands as a tribute to all that has been achieved over the past half-century, and by means of more than 250 'past and present' photographs, most in colour, the reader is able to take a journey along the entire original route from Whitby to Malton, and also to travel through time to witness the evolution of one of Britain's longest and most successful heritage railways.
