Details

One of the most popular titles in the Colourpoint Buses in Ulster series was WH Montgomery's volume on Belfast Corporation buses. In 1973 Ulsterbus took over the Belfast Corporation bus operation and rebranded it as Citybus, retaining a modified form of Belfast's popular and striking red and white livery. This book charts the story of Citybus from its creation in 1973 to the retirement of Werner Heubeck (Ulsterbus Manager) in 1988. In this period Belfast moved from having a fleet made up largely of double-deckers to one made up of high-capacity single-deckers, mostly Bristol REs with Gardner engines. However, this era also coincided with the peak of civil disturbance in Northern Ireland when many buses were lost in riots. To replace them Citybus drafted in many second-hand buses from Britain, including AEC Merlins from London. AII this and much more is charted in this fascinating book.
