Steam Memories 1950-60s 95 Tyne Dock-Consett

No 95 of 'Steam Memories 1950s-1960s' covers the Tyne Dock to Consett line. This line is short by most haulage standards standing at little over twenty-six miles by the direct route. This line used to take the eight-hundred tonne loads from the riverside quay at Tyne Dock Bottom to the steel works at Consett and had to climb more than 650ft over a nine mile section of the route. The rest of the near twenty-seven miles of railway was, except for a steep section out of the docks area, fairly level and easy going requiring just one locomotive for haulage. This album is designed to commemorate the end of steam workings on one of Britain's most celebrated and probably most punishing iron ore services.
