Details

Despites its prosperity it was quite late in the development of railways before Aberdeen, Scotland's third city, was connected to the railway network. The first line to reach the city was the Aberdeen Railway which arrived at Ferryhill in March 1850. This was joined by the Deeside Railway in September 1853. The line was extended to Guild Street in August 1854. The Great North of Scotland Railway opened from Huntly to Kittybrewster September 1854 extending to Waterloo in April 1856. The two termini were about half a mile apart along the quayside which through passengers had negotiate and late-running trains often led to missed connections. This book comprehensively covers the history and development of the railways serving Aberdeen, its station, train services, motive power, signalling, hotels and administration.
