Lost Railways of Yorkshire's West Riding: Harrogate and the North

The north of the old West Riding is, and was, a predominantly agricultural area so railways were fewer and further between than the urban belt to the south, but there is still much of interest for the railway enthusiast. Modest railways, such as the Nidd Valley Light Railway, which served market towns and villages, are now closed, but the majestic Settle and Carlisle Line continues to stride across the Pennines as lasting evidence of Victorian confidence, over confidence perhaps, and engineering ingenuity.
