The period between 1975 and 1995 saw significant changes to the railways of Yorkshire and Humberside, with the closure of many lines serving collieries, quarries and other industrial sites such as the Rowntree’s chocolate factory in York. The author visited the region on several occasions in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, during which time he took the opportunity to capture many soon to be unrepeatable images from the area’s once extensive network of freight lines, as well as the railways in and around Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Hull, York and Scarborough. In the first of two books, Michael Rhodes provides an illustrated guide to the railways of North and West Yorkshire and North Humberside.
