Romania & Bulgaria Narrow Gauge

Due to their location behind the Iron Curtain, Romania and Bulgaria were among the most unapproachable countries of Europe to visit during the Cold War period. Apart from a few enthusiasts who were able to visit the area on specially organised tours, the railway activities of both countries were shrouded in mystery for many years. Both had a significant number of 76cm and 60cm gauge railways, of which sadly very few reminders have survived. This publication portrays the diverse wealth of narrow gauge operations that were once so much part of the everyday scene in this area of Southeastern Europe.
