This volume covers the Midland, Great Northern and London & North Western lines, all of which became part of BR’s North Eastern Region after nationalisation. As well as Leeds Central and Leeds Wellington (Leeds City North) termini the book also covers an area that extends as far as Beeston, Bramley, Kirkstall, Morley and Stourton. There is also a short chapter on the Middleton Railway, said to be the world’s oldest continuously running railway having opened as a waggonway in 1758. Since 1960 it has operated as a heritage railway. As with the earlier volumes in the series, the author has drawn on many years of extensive research using primary sources wherever possible and with the support of many well-known railway photographers and railwaymen who have shared their memories. There are also several maps and diagrams, many of which have been specially drawn.
