Co-Ordination And Joint Operation In Burnley, Colne & Nelson

This new book from the Provincial Historical Research Group of the Omnibus Society is written by Anthony Drury, who lived in the area covered for many years. He aims to show how co-ordinated and joint local transport services were instituted and operated in Burnley, Colne, Nelson and the adjoining areas. Ribble were much readier to co-operate with municipal undertakings than were most company operators, and the list of their joint services with the Burnley, Colne & Nelson Joint Transport Committee was longer than with that of any other partner. In addition, there was joint operation between the Committee and Keighley-West Yorkshire with services across the Pennines. Detailed accounts are given of the setting up then variation of the various pools, including the very rural routes to the Barley area and those to Barnoldswick and around. The book has many illustrations and maps, and looks to be the definitive guide to a complicated but efficient system of operation which has now disappeared.
