Details

Porthcawl Omnibus Company began when dozens of ‘owner driver’ operators on the streets of Porthcawl, during the early 1900s. After the end of World War 2, the majority of remaining operators formed a consortium to amalgamate their interests, and in 1947, registered the company, Porthcawl Omnibus Company Ltd. However, the company became very run down in the late 1950s, and was absorbed by EP John, of Kenfig Motors. The Porthcawl OC. licences and title were retained, and the business operated in tandem with Kenfig Motors Ltd for 18 years, until his retirement in 1977. EP John then sold the Porthcawl operations to John Williams. He also retained the Porthcawl licences and title, and operated the business in tandem with his company, John Williams Coaches. Williams greatly expanded the Porthcawl OC. operations after deregulation but sold off his local service network to AE & FR Brewer Ltd in 1996 and ceased operating in 2001. Includes all Porthcawl Omnibus Company’s ‘Predecessors, Constituents and Associates’.
