Trams of Kolkata

This book is dedicated to the last operating tram in South Asia. It covers the 152-year history of Kolkata’s tram system. The development of the network and descriptions of the lines in operation since 1998 can be traced with the help of the route and track maps. Well over 200 images illustrate the text. The book is complemented by a description of the operating facilities and the development of the rolling stock. The book is bilingual in both English and German. This book is intended to inspire enthusiasm for this unique tram system even though little remains. It contains the history of the tram in Kolkata, detailed descriptions of the lines including track maps, descriptions of the operating facilities, the development of the routes and the rolling stock (as far as researchable). With the help of many detailed plans, the book illustrates the changes in the route network for readers who are not familiar with the area.
