Details

North Sea Ferries was formed 1965 by Ian Churcher who could see the vision to operate purpose-built ferries linking northern England with Holland and later Belgium. With strong locally based passenger marketing and freight team, the company grew at a rapid rate with car, passenger and freight traffic out of Hull, Middlesbrough and Ipswich over the next three decades. Following the entry into service of Norwave and Norwind a further series three of ships were built for the expanding operations. The gateway from the north of England to the continent was later acquired by P&O and eventually the successful operation became under the management of Dover, which in turn saw the slow demise of operations. In 2021 only a passenger service between Hull-Europoort remains with a much-reduced freight presence out of Hull and Middlesbrough. This book looks at the heyday of the operations from the Norwave to the Pride of Rotterdam entering service and the gradual withdrawal of operations to their competitors.
