Despite the electrification of some routes, the south of England was a happy hunting ground for steam enthusiasts in the late 1950s, and for much of the 1960s. Steam traction survived in front line service in Kent until the early 1960s and played a vital role on the Central Section, working mostly goods and van trains, until it was finally eclipsed in 1965. Perhaps the best-remembered route is that from Waterloo to Weymouth which became the last main line in Great Britain to be regularly steam-worked, where Bullied Pacifics, assisted by a few BR Standard classes, held sway until July 1967. Using the best available images this album recalls the final ten years or so of operation that were, for many enthusiasts, the halcyon days of steam. 112 pages hardback with over 100 colour photos.
