Southern Rolling Stock in Colour

The 200 or so images in this latest volume are new and nearly all previously unpublished views of Southern carriages, vans and wagons and remarkably, all the images are in colour (dating as far back as the 1930s). Just as impressive is the variety of photographs - from pre-grouping stock that survived into the 1950s and 1960s to Southern-built vehicles. Milk tanks feature in detail for the first time as well as horse boxes, ballast wagons and even a locomotive tender still lettered 'Southern'. The author's caption detail is also unsurpassed; the images are supported by over 40,000 words of comprehensive text about the building, history and use of these vehicles. Owners covered include London and South Western Railway, London Brighton & South Coast Railway, South Eastern Railway, Southern Railway and Pullman stock; whilst liveries include 'Southern Green', various British Railways schemes and engineer's paint styles.
