Details

This picturesque line connected the Scottish Borders town of Selkirk to Galashiels. Like many such ventures it emerged from the aspirations of the town’s notables and business people to link into the railway network, increasing connectivity and the quantities of goods going from and coming into the area, more quickly and at less cost. From the start (the line opened in 1856) the local company appreciated the need to co-operate with the mighty North British Railway, who worked what was effectively their branch from opening. The book is the result of many years research, an in-depth study with ten chapters covering the early years until BR days and others on Galashiels Station, People, the NBR Years, LNER Days and the BR era etc. Six appendices include, amongst others, signalling, locomotives, private owner wagons and traffic returns.
