The seventies were to see the road passenger transport industry in Great Britain stood on its head. Apart from the demise of the traditional front-engined bus chassis and its replacement by the rear-engined designs that have become so familiar, the make-up of the industry itself changed out of all recognition.. The National Bus Company was formed on 1st January 1969, effectively as successor to BET and Tilling, and by the mid 1970s its effects were being felt in every corner of the land. The PTEs did much the same thing for the conurbations and many municipal fleets lost their identity. This volume presents the best of GHF Atkins work from not only Nottingham and environs, but also much of the rest of the country, including from Brighton via London, Birmingham and Leicester to Scotland, and from Llandudno to Skegness taking in Manchester, Bradford and Sheffield on the way. John Banks has once again provided text and captions and the book gives a unique record of the changes that the seventies brought.
