This 304-page volume charts in chronological form the development of all Glasgow's tram services and how they waxed and waned over 65 years. Lavishly illustrated and printed throughout in colour, this represents a lifetime's study by the author, validated by access to official records. It also incorporates contemporary traffic notices and window publicity posters together with many of Ian Stewart's highly-detailed tram drawings. Four maps illustrate the whole system at a glance, the city centre track layout, fare stages and the contemporary official map produced for the 1938 Empire Exhibition. Appendices include detail of all of the depots and their service allocations, night services, all slip-board and destination displays are listed. The illustrations, many half page, some full page, have been carefully chosen to show the locations and types of cars described, and placed to match the chronology.
