The Nottingham photographer GHF Atkins was a frequent visitor to North Western territory in the Golden Age of that fleet. His photographic coverage starts with the famous and characteristic Tilling-Stevens chassis of the 1920s and moves through a series of expertly composed portraits of late prewar and various postwar types to the maximum length modern coaches of the period before the demise of this Cheshire operator. Such locations as Stockport, Matlock and Buxton have fared badly in transport publications: the contemporary scene in these and many others is vividly brought to life in this album through Geoffrey Atkins's photographs and the usual authoritative text from author John Banks.
