What was it that caused the Samuel Ledgard fleet to attract such a loyal following? And such sadness when it disappeared into the vastness of the Transport Holding Company? It was independent, to start with, and was by many perceived as David fighting the Goliath of the big company operators. Then there was its vehicle policy, which in later years produced fine new buses and coaches cheek-by- jowl with a fascinating array of second-hand vehicles from all over the place, including fleets of ex-London Transport RTs and ex-Tilling Bristols. This affectionate look at a much-missed operator combines the reminisces of long-time Ledgard enthusiast Mike Lockyer and Venture's regular writer John Banks with a wonderful selection of photographs illustrating Ledgard's activities from before the First World War to the fateful decision to sell out to the West Yorkshire Road Car Company.
