Lancashire United Transport was in its heyday the largest independent bus operator in the country with a fleet at its maximum of 500 plus vehicles. It operated local and long distance bus routes together with workmen's, excursion and private hire services from its Atherton base to Liverpool throughout south Lancashire and as far as Newcastle and Middlesbrough. It was absorbed into GMPTE in 1976 and operated as a self-contained operation until 1981 when it was fully integrated into the PTE. The company was registered in December 1905 with its inaugural meeting in January 1906 and this new book by acknowledged expert Eric Ogden, thus commemorates the Centenary. It incorporates a considerable amount of new information about the background to the formation of the company and the attributes and financial skills of the directors which led to the company being so successful. Number 10 in Venture's Super Prestige series, the book contains 144 pages, 32 of which are in colour, with over 150 pictures.
