Details

Known by the locals as ‘Ponty’, and for the rest of us forever as the home of those chewy liquorice factories, but up until the 1980s coal mining dominated the area and that continued and contracted until 2002. But back in the early 1920s the South Yorkshire bus story began with three companies competing vigorously with each other. The book starts by exploring this complex family tree of bus companies and how South Yorkshire Motors Company eventually evolved and came into being. After this the author recounts the evolution of the bus routes and the buses themselves from American REOs in the 20s to Atlanteans in the early 70s. The illustrations are a mix of black and white and colour photographs.
