This publication aims to set out the history, fleet and legacy of Continental Pioneer, a distinctive and interesting independent coach operator based in Richmond, Surrey and active from August 1966 to late- 1986. Established in the mid-1960s in Richmond, focusing on private coach hire, British and Continental tours, school work, excursions, and limited local bus services. Known for operating Route 235, a short, well-known route from Richmond Station to Richmond Hill from May 1968 until September 1986. Primarily a coach operator, with local bus work as a minor part. Fleet Maintained an eclectic fleet including various AEC, Bristol and Leyland makes, as well as many ex-London Transport RTs, RTLs and RFs and London and Manchester ex-airport coaches. It will be remembered for its iconic route, unusual fleet, and preservation contributions and played a significant role in London's independent bus history, maintaining an unique identity during an era dominated by London Transport.
